Aim : To Revive 2000-year Mosaic Art  in Nizip !

Supported by State Planning Organizition and being among the programmes between Turkey­­—Syria Inter-regional Co-operation, Nizip Chamber of Commerce is starting to Mosaic Training Center activities with a contract approved by Gaziantep Governorship on 4th of December 2007. Aim : To Revive 2000-year Mosaic Art       Being in Nizip borders, Zeugma Antique City has been established on 20 million square meter of land in 1.th century B.C. Today it has become a center that attracts the attention of the world.

      Zeugma Antique City which has 2000-year history is in Nizip county borders. Having high value in terms of art, mosaics in Zeugma has a special place among mosaics of the Antique period. It has a great importance for this big heritage being introduced, taught and by these ways saved for new generations. On the way of being center of industry and trade, Nizip  will become a mosaic center that will be wondered and known by all over the world with its Zeugma Antique City. When studied the mosaics that have been found out in Zeugma, it could be seen that mosaic manufacturing had been a serious sector in that period. Besides target to carry this unique heritage in Nizip that has lived in our land for 2000 years to the next generation,  its aim is to revive the mosaic sector which is expanding and improving day by day all over the world. To realize the target it is decided to build Mosaic Traning Center under the Nizip Chamber of Commerce.

      Along with saving the heritage by introducing and teaching mosaic art which is historical and cultural heritage of the region to the new generation, activities will be done to attract the attention of foreing, domestic tourists and professionals in tourism sector ; to improve the knowledge of Nizip folk about the cultural heritage ; to take attention to mosaic art which is one pattern of Nizip culture ; and to make differances in tourism sector.

     There will be an inroduction in Syria. Under the project one expert and two volunteer students will be invited from Syria and told about the studies on mosaic art. Later they will have a presentation in Syria about the project.

     It will be three each month training in two periods and for each period 15 volunteer students will be trained as craftsmans. Their studies will be done with real stones and the certifications will be given to the graduates.

     Mosaic Training Center whose target is the people who want to manufacture mosaic and make it a profession for themselves will start its training in March.
